In Azerbaijan, residents of Imishli District go on hunger strike
In Imishli District of Azerbaijan, 10 local residents went on hunger strike, demanding fair compensation for the consequences of flooding.
All participants of the hunger strike in Imishli District were affected by spring flooding in 2010, which ruined their houses and farms. According to the residents, in spite of the appeals of the aggrieved persons to the state institutions, the authorities failed to help them.
The hunger strikers demand new assessment of the damage to be made by the Commission of the Ministry for Emergencies (MfE) and insist on the resignation of Abulfaz Agaev, Chief District Executive, the "Contact online news" reports.
On March 10, Valekh Babashov and Elman Shakhbazov, two local residents, went on a hunger strike. The number of the hunger strikers includes three veterans of the Karabakh conflict, the "Trend" reports.
At present, comments of representatives of the MfE and the district executive authorities are not available.
