Hotel refuses to accommodate athletes from Chechnya
Chechen athletes, who came to the city of Nizhny Novgorod to participate in the Russian Championship on Karate, were refused to stay at a hotel because of their nationality. This was reported by Magomed Nadaev, the honoured coach of the republic on karate.
"Our team has been officially invited to participate in the competitions. The hotel rooms were booked in advance by the Limited Liability Company (LLC) "Kiokushinskoe karate". Upon arrival, I have collected the documents of the athletes for registration. However, when the receptionist saw registration marks in our passports, she immediately returned the documents and said that there were no free rooms at the hotel," said Magomed Nadaev.
The organizers of the competitions have arranged that Chechen athletes can stay at the hotel located in 25 kilometres from Nizhny Novgorod.
Nurdi Nukhazhiev, Ombudsman in the Chechen Republic, appealed to Vladimir Nikonov, the Prosecutor of the city of Nizhny Novgorod, to take measures of prosecutorial response. Nurdi Nukhazhiev believes that the actions of the hotel receptionists should be treated as discrimination based on nationality, the press service of the Ombudsman reports.
At present, the "Caucasian Knot" has no official comments or explanations of the situation of the hotel management.
