Russian President instructs Prosecutor's Office to consider case against Kuban ecologist Suren Gazaryan
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev instructed the Prosecutor's Office to verify compliance with the law in the case against the ecologist Suren Gazaryan. This was reported today by Mikhail Fedotov, the head of the Presidential Council on Development of Civil Society and Human Rights.
According to Mikhail Fedotov, in the course of the meeting of the Presidential Council, the issue on the situation with the ecologist has been repeatedly raised.
"The President said that he would instruct the Prosecutor's Office to look into the story in the most detailed way," the "Interfax" quotes Mikhail Fedotov as saying.
Today, the meeting of the Presidential Council on Development of Civil Society and Human Rights was held in Novokuibyshevsk. The Council had originally planned to invite to the meeting Suren Gazaryan himself that he would present a report on the persecution of ecologists. However, later, the idea was abandoned, since Suren Gazaryan had signed a recognizance not to leave, the RIA "Novosti" reports.
