Police reports on disclosure of "Imarat Kavkaz" branch in Volga penal colony

The activity of the religious organization of the North-Caucasian militants "Imarat Kavkaz" in one of the correctional facilities of the Volga District was suppressed. This was reported by the Chief Department of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA). About 30 persons were detained on the case.

According to the MIA, the cell consisted of more than 20 persons. "Members of the grouping were promoting among prisoners radical religious views; they distributed forbidden literature and recruited supporters," the police report states.

According to policemen, after the release from prison, many of the figurants of the case planned to go to Northern Caucasus and to take part in combat activities against federal forces.

The policemen state that they searched the extremists and confiscated about 200 religious books in Arabic, Tatar and Russian languages, including those included in the federal list of extremist materials, 40 copybooks with religious manuscripts, 18 writing books, computer hardware, electronic data carriers, a large number of printed and handwritten sheets of paper with religious content, including guidance to train militants and carry out sabotage and terror acts, and the flag of the "Imarat Kavkaz".

"About three dozen persons were detained: those, who are serving their sentences at present, and those, who had been released earlier," the agency "Interfax" quotes Vasily Kucherak, the head of the press service of the Chief Department of the Russian MIA in the Volga Federal District.
