Two Dagestani wrestlers win European championship

At the European Championships in freestyle wrestling, held in the Serbian capital Belgrade, three athletes from Dagestan have already top places, including two gold medals.

The European Championships in freestyle, Greco-Roman and women's wrestling was launched on March 5. According to Adlan Varaev, First Vice-President of the Russian Wrestling Federation, responsible for the freestyle wrestling, the country will be represented at the Continental Championship by freestyle wrestlers, the winners of the Grand Prix "Ivan Yarygin", including four athletes from Dagestan.

Rasul Murtazaliev (category up to 60 kg), Abdusalam Gadis (category up to 96 kg), and Bakhtiyar Akhmedov (category up to 120 kg) represent the Dagestani team in the national team, and Jamal Otarsultanov, a native of the village of Solnechnoe of the Khasavyurt District, competing in the weight category of up to 55 kg, represents the CSKA Moscow team, the website of the Russian Wrestling Federation reports.

Abusalam Gadis became the European champion among the wrestlers in the weight category of up to 96 kg. On March 6, in the final competition, he defeated the Ukrainian athlete Valery Andreytsev, the agency of sport information "Ves Sport" (All Sport) reports.

On March 7, the Championship held tournaments in the weight categories of up to 55 and 60 kg. The third place in the weight category of up to 60 kg went to Rasul Murtazaliev, who was defeated in the first round of the weight category of up to 60 kg by Anatoly Guida from Bulgaria, the European champion of 2007.

On the same day, in the weight category of up to 55 kg, the first place went to Jamal Otarsultanov, who defeated Besarion Gochashvili from Georgia in the decisive battle and won the title of European Champion, the RIA "Dagestan" reports.
