Musavat Party leader appeals to PACE to establish commission "to investigate presidential election in Azerbaijan"

Musavat Party leader Isa Gambar called upon the members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) to support democracy in Azerbaijan. In his appeal to the PACE session opened on January 26 in Strasbourg, Gambar made a positive evaluation of the report by the Monitoring Group of the Council of Europe on the situation in Azerbaijan and drew the deputies' attention to the fact that the country's authorities persisted in disregarding all recommendations and requirements of the Parliamentary Assembly that Baku should meet its commitments to Strasbourg. "We count on you support in this question. We believe the Council of Europe will do everything possible to make our government undeviatingly meet all the commitments undertaken to the Council. We believe the Council of Europe's assessment of the election and post-election situation in Azerbaijan is objective and it will decide on the establishment of an independent international commission to investigate the presidential election in Azerbaijan. We expect that the Council of Europe will not shift this important mission to our parliament, which was not elected in a democratic way," reads the appeal.
