Grozny residents complain about heat and water outages

Residents of the Staropromyslovsky District and the township of Chernorechye of the Zavodskoy District of Grozny report about problems with heat and water supplies, caused by the abnormally cold weather.

"Eight apartment blocks in Pugachov and Zavety Ilyicha Streets had no heating for two days because of electricity problems. We had to put an ordinary gas burner in one room; and the whole family gathered there, because it was simply impossible to stay in other rooms. Communal services were troubleshooting for two days; however, three blocks are still unheated, although they promised to fix the problem within a day," Magomed, a resident of the Staropromyslovsky District of Grozny told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to his story, the district also has serious problems with water supply. "My relatives live in the township of Verkhnyaya Katayama; they have no water for a few days already," said the source of the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

In the township of Chernorechye in the Zavodskoy District, according to local residents, 30 houses remain without heating for more than 24 hours, while 40 other houses have no water supply.

"If the power or water supply systems cannot withstand the 20-degree frost, what will happen, if the temperature drops to minus 30-35 degrees?" asked Anzor T., a resident of Grozny.

The administration of the Chechen capital argues that consumers themselves are guilty of heating and water outages.

"Because of the cold weather, people are more and more using additional electric heating appliances to warm up their homes. The load on power lines is just enormous, and, of course, substations and transformers suffer from short circuits and failures occur," the spokesman of the Grozny Mayoralty said.
