Georgian media managers set up NGO to protect the press
Today, the managers of some Georgian television, radio and printed media have issued a memorandum on cooperation with the aim to protect the interests of media in Georgia and agreed to establish the NGO entitled "Solidarity for Media Freedom".
The issue of setting up some union in support of media was actively raised after the scandal around the "Maestro" TV Company, which is working in the emergency mode for the second month already.
The working group for setting up the NGO is headed by Lasha Tugushi, the editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Resonanci", and includes journalists from Radio "Maestro", information portal "Presage.TV" and newspaper "Asaval Dasavali".
At the signing the cooperation memorandum, the top managers of these media, as well as of Radio "Sakartvelos Khma" (Voice of Georgia) and Media Union "Objective", invited their colleagues from different media to join them until February 1 for setting up the NGO "Solidarity for Media Freedom", the "Georgia Online" reports.
"This NGO will bring the problems of Georgian media to the international level, which is very difficult today; therefore, we decided to establish the NGO. We've agree that an attack on one medium is the attack on all the media; and we'll fight together," the "News-Georgia" quotes Mamuka Glonti, one of the founders of the "Maestro".
