Dmitry Putenikhin released in Moscow

The magistrate judge of the Tver Court of Moscow has released Dmitry Putenikhin, an activist of "The Other Russia", who had splashed water in the face of Public Prosecutor Alexei Smirnov, who had represented the state prosecution at the trial of mass riots in Manege Square.

The defendant was found guilty under Article 319 (public insult of a state official) of the Russian Criminal Code and sentenced to 7 months of corrective works. The period of his custody was included into this term, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

The Putenikhin's case was considered by the court under a special procedure at the request of the defendant himself. The prosecutor asked the magistrate judge to appoint a penalty in the form of 6 months of corrective works to Putenikhin; while his advocate Dagir Khasavov asked the court to release his client from detention. Putenikhin pled guilty and refused from his last plea.
