Armenia holds protest against State Duma election frauds

Today, in Yerevan, in front of the Russian Embassy to Armenia, a protest action was held against rigged elections to the Russian State Duma, initiated by an initiative group of students.

According to the protesters, today in many cities around the world rallies in solidarity with protesters in Russia are held.

As part of the action, its participants staged a performance showing election falsification process in non-democratic countries: throw-in of ballot papers marked in advance for the party in power. Then, the "actors" staged the process of vote tabulation and declared that "the party in power had won 127% of votes."

Razmik Zakaryan, one of the protesters and a student of the Yerevan State University, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the aim of the action was not only to support their like-minded fellows in Russia, but also to associate the situation in Russia with a possible similar scenario in Armenia.

"Our parliamentary elections are approaching; it's quite possible that we'll have to fight against possible frauds," he said. "Citizens of our country should always be on guard against such practices."

Philip Arzumanyan takes part in the rally intending to demonstrate his civil stand. According to his story, he came to the rally to support people who "have finally understood something and try to manifest themselves as civil society."
