120 requests submitted to Committee for clemency in Georgia

On December, 25, a session of Committee for clemency to the convicts will be held in Georgia. On this day it will be decided how many convicts will be recommended for clemency.

It should be reminded that at the end of November President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvily granted a pardon to 137 convicts in honour of "Giorgoba" holiday (St. George Day). Complete pardon was granted to 111 convicts, six got a reduction of custody term by half, penalty term was reduced to two persons and 18 convicts were exempted from conditional penalty.

Lasha Tordia, Chairman of the parliamentary Human Rights Committee, said that the Committee for clemency had received 120 requests by the moment, IA "Novosti-Georgia" reports.

The cases considered by the Committee will be submitted for the President's sanction, "Georgia Online" reports.
