An action of protest passed off near the Embassy of France in Baku
An action of protest against adoption of a bill criminalizing denial of genocide of the Armenians by France passed off On December, 22, near the French Embassy in Baku. The action was organized by International Center of Diaspora and Azerbaijani Community of War Veterans.
Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" reported that the Lower Chamber of the French Parliament endorsed the bill of criminal penalty for denial of genocide of the Armenians. In reply Turkey recalled its Ambassador from Paris for consultations.
About 100 people participated in the action in Baku. They were chanting slogans "Be fair, France!", "Down with Sarkozy!", "Long live Turkey!".
The participants adopted a resolution condemning the actions of France and handed it to a representative of the Embassy. The organizers also called for France to stop co-chairmanship in Minsk group, "Vesti.az" reports.
The action ended without incidents, the police made no attempts to disperse the demonstrators, IA "Novosti Azerbaijan" reports.
It should be reminded that after adoption by the Lower Chamber the bill will be passed over to the Upper Chamber, the Senate, for consideration. It is expected to be passed in February, several months before the beginning of the presidential election.
The bill stipulates one year of custody and a fine of 45 thousand euros for denial of genocide.
