ECtHR satisfies claims of Dubrovka victims
The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has ordered Russia to pay compensation in the range of 9000-66,000 euros to the victims of the terror act in the Dubrovka Theatre Centre in Moscow, the press service of the ECtHR has reported.
The ECtHR had united the lawsuits of Dubrovka victims. Both complaints were filed in 2004 and referred to the violation of the rights to life, to a fair trial and to effective remedies, and to the validity of the actions undertaken by special agencies at eliminating the terror act. The victims demanded compensation for violation of their rights.
The ECtHR has satisfied the victims' lawsuits and ruled to collect from the Russian government from 9000 to 66,000 euros in favour of 64 victims from the hostage-taking terror act in the Moscow Dubrovka Theatrical Centre, the "Interfax" reports.
In total, the Court has prescribed to collect from Russia about 1.24 million euros. Furthermore, the ECtHR has ordered Russia to compensate the applicants' court costs totalling about 30,000 euros and pay travel expenses for two of them in the amount of 2000 euros each.
The decision of the ECtHR will come into force three months after publication, if neither party appeals against it to the Grand Chamber of the ECtHR, the RIA "Novosti" reports with reference to the ECtHR.
