EU allocates over 26 million euros to Georgia on support of refugees and development of education

The European Union has transferred 26.2 million euros to the state budget of Georgia. The money will go to support forced displaced persons and development of vocational training.

For the so-called "special measures" to be taken by the government of Georgia in support of internal migrants, the EU has transferred 21.1 million euros out of the earlier promised help of 43.5 million euros.

The EU has also allocated 5.1 million euros out of the 19 million euros promised in 2009 in support of the vocational training sector. The budgetary help assumes transferring the funds directly to the treasury in exchange of implementation of the earlier coordinated conditions, the "Trend" reports.

This year, three cities in Western Georgia – Batumi, Zugdidi and Tskhaltubo – plan to commission housing facilities for refugees, built under a special governmental programme. Batumi should build up to 22 buildings, Tskhaltubo and Zugdidi – 10 buildings each, the "Georgia Today" reports with reference to Manana Mandjgaladze, the press speaker of the Georgian president.
