Human rights activist Basmanov in Sochi released from arrest
Human rights activist Sergey Basmanov who served administrative arrest in Sochi for insubordination to the police was released.
Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" reported that human rights activist Sergey Basmanov, Director of an organization "Protection of the Citizens' Rights and Legal Interests", detained in Sochi on December, 10, was arrested for a five-days term and kept in a temporary isolation ward.
Today at 22:20 Basmanov was released from the isolation ward. He said to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that he was alone in a cell for several persons. After he went on a hunger strike the physician did not visit him.
The human rights activist is going to appeal against the authorities' actions which made him spend five days in the investigative isolation ward while he had not committed a single administrative infraction.
Several hours before Basmanov's release a picket of "Environmental Watch on North Caucasus" in his protection was held is Sochi. Since 14:00 single-person picketing began in front of the building of the Central district court, Gorky street, 20, which was started by member of "Environmental Watch" Julia Naberezhnaya, then her colleague Marina Ukhova stepped in.
