Human rights activist Sergey Basmanov arrested in Sochi went on a hunger strike

Human rights activist Sergey Basmanov in Sochi who is currently serving administrative arrest for insubordination to the police went on a hunger strike as a sign of protest against the judgment.

Basmanov disagreed with the judgment of duty magistrate Alexander Mandrykin who convicted him for insubordination to the police and filed an appeal on December, 11. According to secretary of the magistrate's court Sergey Kunin, in 15 minutes the appeal was referred for consideration to duty federal judge Vladislav Vlasenko in the Central district court.

Judge Vlasenko appointed hearing of the case on Basmanov's appeal on December, 12. Representatives of the community and human rights activists were present at the trial. The police personnel did not arrive.

"The judge does not let us familiarize ourselves with the materials of the case", Basmanov's attorney Igor Kurochkin declared. He also added that his client went on a hunger strike.
