Dagestani communists hold protest action against official election results

On December 6, the Dagestani Republic's Committee of the CPRF (the Communist Party of the Russian Federation) held a rally in Makhachkala. The main demands of the organizers were to bring to justice those persons, who, according to the communists, falsified the elections to the State Duma, conducted on December 4.

The rally organized by the CPRF was held on daylight near the building of the Avar Theatre in Makhachkala. The number of participants reached about 50-70 persons. Representatives of the "Yabloko" Party also came to support the communists, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Earlier, the Republic's Committee of the CPRF has sent a complaint about violations of the law at the election of deputies to the State Duma to the Russian President, the Dagestani President, Vladimir Churov, Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC), and Gennady Zyuganov, Chairman of the CPRF.

The Dagestani Regional Branch of the CPRF, which is supported by more than half of the population of the republic, will no longer tolerate the arbitrariness of the republic authorities, "which at every elections pushes us into the 7-percent corridor," stated Makhmud Makhmudov, the leader of the Dagestani communists.

According to him, Dagestani communists do not recognize the election results.

"The Republic's Committee of the CPRF decided to lead its members, supporters and those people, who did not vote and whose voices had been used, to the street protests," explained Makhmud Makhmudov.

Let us remind you that in the course of the elections held on December 4, representatives of the CPRF reported on violations during the voting at the election of deputies to the State Duma, for example, in the Novolakskoe District and the city of Kaspiisk, where they recorded the ballot box stuffing. According to the preliminary results, announced by the Republic's Election Commission, about 108,000 people, or about 7.5 percent of voters, voted for the CPRF.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Dagestani Regional Branch of the "Yabloko" Party also claimed their discontent at the election results. Albert Esedov, the candidate of the "Yabloko" Party, the first persons in the list of Makhachkala group, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that one of the facts of violation of the law occurred in Makhachkala, where Isalmagomed Nabiev, the commission's member with decisive voice, was removed from the premises of the electoral precinct.

Residents of the Gunib and Akhvakh Districts also reported violations during the voting at the elections.

The Dagestani Election Commission does not comment the situation till the investigation into the facts mentioned in the statements of the political parties.
