Ingushetia: 103 victims of armed conflict for 11 months of 2011

During 11 months of 2011, from January 1 to November 30, 103 persons, including 69 killed and 34 wounded, became the victims of the armed conflict in Ingushetia. These are the results of calculations of the "Caucasian Knot", based on the data from its own correspondents and information from open sources.

Losses of power agents and underground

According to the reports of law enforcement agencies, for 11 months of 2011, losses of the armed underground in Ingushetia reached 40 persons. This number includes people who died as a result of suicide bombings and power agents actions' aimed to combat the militants.

Besides, at least 22 persons, involved - according to the law enforcement agencies - in the armed underground, were detained.

The "Caucasian Knot" emphasizes that the statistics considers the suspected members of the armed underground - the persons who have been declared militants by law enforcement agencies.

In Ingushetia, since the beginning of the year, at least 19 law enforcement agents in total were killed in attacks, bombings, armed clashes and assassination attempts. Another 26 law enforcement agents were wounded.

Civilian victims

Because of confrontation between power agents and the armed underground, Ingush civilians suffer. Civilians are among the victims of the glowing conflict.

In Ingushetia, since the beginning of 2011, at least 10 civilians were killed in attacks, bombings, shelling and assassination attempts, and at least 5 civilians were wounded.

Besides, kidnappings and disappearances still happen. In total, during 11 months of 2011, 13 such cases have been registered in Ingushetia.

You should be aware that the above statistics cannot reflect with absolute accuracy the number of victims in each of the categories in the survey. Not all information enters news reports. It is not always possible to check the reliability of the law enforcement agencies' statements. There are difficulties in identifying the remains of bodies - till present an acute problem of lack of adequate laboratories affects timing and quality of examinations.

Figures speak of tendency to stabilization

According to the "Caucasian Knot" calculations, in last 2010, at least 326 persons, including 134 killed and 192 wounded, became victims of the armed conflict in Ingushetia. At least 18 kidnappings were registered.

For 2010, Ingushetia occupied the second place on the highest number of victims among the regions of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD). However, according to the "Caucasian Knot" statistics and analysis, for the first half of 2011, the republic has moved to the fourth place on that indicator and remained at that position as of September 14, 2011, and it holds the same place for 11 months of 2011.

"I believe that the population itself is tired of all those useless things, of killings and explosions, and people sincerely go out to meet the case," the republic's leader Yunus-Bek Evkurov has commented on the tendency to stabilization in his interview to the "Caucasian Knot". "And the government is doing everything to enable people to communicate directly with the authorities, to bring information accurately and efficiently to those people who are able to prevent any criminal acts."
