Four participants of an action of protest against prohibition of wearing hijab convicted on Baku

A verdict to a group of believers arrested in connection with an action of protest in front of the Ministry of Education of Azerbaijan on May, 6, was announced in Narimanov district court of Baku.

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" reported that on May, 6, several hundred believers held an action of protest against prohibition of wearing hijab at schools in front of the Ministry of Education. The participants declared that their daughters could not attend classes because of this prohibition. The police dispersed the action and detained 45 of its participants. Part of them were called to administrative account and criminal charges were brought against a group of persons.

Narimanov court of Baku sentenced Togrul Iskanderov and Mamed Askerov to three years of custody, Chingiz Novruzov and Talekh Akperov to 1,5 years. Representatives of Narimanov court informed that all of them were acknowledged guilty according to clause 221.3 (hooliganism with the use of arms or objects used as arms).

The defendants rejected the charges brought against them.
