Venice Commission publishes its recommendations on the new Electoral Code of Georgia
The Venice Commission has given a positive preliminary conclusion on the draft new Electoral Code of Georgia, said Pavle Kublashvili, Chairman of the Judiciary Committee of the Georgian Parliament.
"In general, the commission gave a positive assessment of the code, although certain recommendations were given. For example, the positive assessment was given to the procedure of list revision, appointment of members of election commissions and the issue of funding, according to which the party, which has overcome the barrier, will be able to return the funds spent on the campaign from the budget," said Pavle Kublashvili.
The recommendations are still covering the issue associated with independent candidates, the issue of granting voting rights to convicts, use of administrative resources and establishment of quotas for women and national minority members.
"Ultimately, the new code is evaluated as meeting the European standards and enabling to hold democratic elections," the "News-Georgia" quotes Mr Kublashvili as saying.
According to his story, the approval of the draft new Electoral Code of Georgia will take place on December 17. On that day, a sitting of the Venice Commission will take place, where the final report will be presented, the "Echo of the Caucasus" reports.
