Azerbaijanis protest against non-combat army losses

Today, activists of several youth organizations and youth branches of Azerbaijani oppositional parties have held a protest rally, during which they demanded to investigate the reasons of soldiers' death during peacetime.

"Army commanders shall respond for soldiers' deaths at the Karabakh front and in non-combat conditions. Soldiers are lost not only from the bullets of the enemy, but from diseases and as a result of hazing. We demand to put an end to it," said one of the protesters.

In total, over 100 young people took part in the demonstration in Fountain Square in downtown Baku – activists of the youth branches of political parties "Popular Front", "Democratic Party", "Musavat" and Youth Organizations "Nida" (Shout) and "Youth Freedom".

They brought with them posters with photos of fallen soldiers and chanted: "Glory to Azerbaijani soldier!", "Fallen heroes are immortal, Homeland is indivisible!" and "Bring those guilty of soldiers' deaths to responsibility!"

After the start of the action, law enforcers detained about 10 activists, including Djamil Gadjiev, the head of the youth branch of the "Democratic Party"; they were brought to police stations.

By the evening of that day, all ten activists were released.
