Snowfall provokes landslides in Southern Azerbaijan
A heavy snowfall in the southern areas of Azerbaijan has led to landslides in seven villages.
On November 25, the south of Azerbaijan suffered from a heavy snowfall. Together with a strong wind, it caused problems with gas and electricity supplies in the Lyankyaran District of the country. In the evening of November 25 and during the following night landslides began.
Landslides and avalanches occurred in seven locations in the villages of Khoravar and Separadi, and on several sections of the road Masally-Yardymly. Despite the partial elimination of their consequences, there is a threat of repeated landslides in these localities.
Landslides were also registered on the motor roads leading into the village of Larmarud, Vavagon and Khaftoni of the Lerik District. In this district, because of soil creep, a house of a villager occurred in the state of emergency, the IA "Trend" reports.
The snowfall caused problems in several other regions of Azerbaijan; in particular, they had to stop traffic on the highway Baku-Shemakha-Agsu, which connects the capital with the northwest of the country, the RIA "Novosti" reports.
