Astronomers of Armenia will monitor “space debris” with financial support of “Roscosmos”

In January, 2012, a joint Armenian-Russian astronomic program “Observing space debris” will be launched. This was reported by Aik Arutiunyan, Director of Biurakan Observatory.

“Biurakan Observatory will be included into a network of monitoring “space debris” and warning of unsafe situations in circumterrestrial cosmic space”, Aik Arutiunyan said.

According to him, the program will be financed by “Roscosmos” Federal space agency. The cost of the program is two million US dollars.

With this money it is planned to put right the telescopes for monitoring.

Manager of the Observatory hopes that thanks to implementation of the joint program new jobs for young scientists will be created in Armenia.
