Nurgaliev: over 50 acts of terror successfully prevented in NCFO since the beginning of the year

Law enforcement bodies have successfully prevented over 50 acts of terror in Northern Caucasus during the ten months of the current year, however, operative situation in the region remains tense, Head of the Ministry of Interior Affairs of the Russian Federation Rashid Nurgaliev reported.

"All in all 350 terror-related crimes, including 213 episodes of firing and 137 of blasting, were committed during 10 months in North-Caucasian Federal Okrug (NCFO)", the Minister said at an operative conference with heads of police institutions of the subjects of the Russian Federation which are parts of NCFO.

At the conference with members of power ministries Rashid Nurgaliev pointed out that 65 armed confrontations took place during search operations carried out by law enforcement bodies.

"During the period January to October, this year, the personnel of law enforcement bodies prevented over 50 terror-related crimes. The operative situation in NCFO can be estimated as a stable but tense one", RIA "Novosti" quotes Rashid Nurgaliev.

Head of the Ministry of Interior Affairs also said that during the period 313 supposed gunmen were killed and 399 participants of paramilitary groups detained. According to him, during the same period 100 bases and 318 hiding places with terrorists' equipment were liquidated. Two home-made devices for launching unguided missiles, eight flame-throwers, 124 grenade launchers, 1112 units of small arms were impounded from illegal traffic, ITAR-TASS reports.
