Pre-investigation check is on in Nalchik on students' mass poisoning

The investigatory division for the city of Nalchik is conducting a pre-investigation check of the fact of poisoning of 48 students and teachers of the Kabardino-Balkar State Agricultural Academy (KBSACA). A service check will be also held with respect to the doctors of the Urvan District Hospital, where a poisoned girl had died.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed at the Nalchik Infectious Hospital that 47 patients are still taking their treatment after poisoning at the canteen of the KBSACA; of them, 32 are in the state of moderate gravity.

Relatives of Radima Ezieva, a native of the Kakhun village, who died on October 30 in the Urvan District Hospital, believe that the doctors had demonstrated negligence, failed to render the necessary care, and that is why she died. This was stated in the comments of the readers of the "Caucasian Knot" posted under the articles about the poisoning in Nalchik.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has learnt from Khazrit Bezirov, the father-in-law of the perished girl, Radima Ezieva fell ill on October 27. She was taken to the Urvan District Hospital, where she was sent to the neurologist, because she had heavy headache. However, prior to get to the doctor, the girl had to wait for three hours in the queue, despite the gravity of her condition, which caused three vomiting attacks right in the hospital corridor; finally, one of the patients in the queue invited Radima to go to the doctor instead of her.

According to the relatives, Doctor Bereketov failed to define the cause of the disease, but hospitalized her locally. Through the following day the girl received no care, the relatives assert, saying also that they faced rude attitude of the doctors.

According to Mr Bezirov, Doctor Lida Bezirova examined the girl and said that she was feigning the disease and was capricious; while the physician of intensive care Irina Srukova stated that the patient was hysterical patient and asked whether that had mentally ill persons among Radima's relatives.

After Radima's death of she was diagnosed with the "demyeliniation brain process."

So far, no doctors' comments have been available.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that according to the investigation the source of poisoning was in pickled cucumbers bought in the marketplace and served at the canteen. The Nalchik Court has suspended the kitchen and six canteens of the KBSACA for 45 days. The three other canteens rented by entrepreneurs at the Academy were suspended for 30 days, and the canteen at the hostel - for 15 days.
