Protester who glorified Hitler detained at "Russian March" in Volgograd
On November 4, over a thousand people took part in the "Russian March" in Volgograd. The police detained a participant who glorified Hitler.
The "Russian March" in Volgograd began with a rally. The number of demonstrators doubled as compared with the "Russian March" in 2010. The posters and banners read as follows: "Russians, go ahead!", "No lezginka on Russian land!", "Russian, stop drinking vodka!" "Russians are coming!", "Glory to Russia!" and "Slavs are united and invincible!" There were also some anti-governmental slogans: "Putin-Medvedev-prison!", "Party of cannibals eats Russia" and "Edinaya Rossiya Party – into garbage can!"
The participants in the "Russian March" moved from the Voroshilov District of the city to the Tsentralny District, chanting the words: "Russians, go ahead!" Throughout the march the column of nationalists was accompanied by police cars and patrol units.
"Today I saw a frightening scene. Men and women of different age, with predominance of young people, marched through the streets of Volgograd and chanted clearly nationalist slogans. By their tempo and rhythm it was just a Nazi march of the time of the Third Reich," Andrei Bachman, a local political scientist and activist of the anti-fascist movement of Volgograd, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
Vadim Merkulov, Chairman of the regional branch of the organization "For Human Rights", believes that such nationalists' actions are extremely dangerous for the society. "This is a problem of our authorities who would not hold any civil or political reform. Therefore, we see manifestations of the most sinister sentiments; it's very dangerous."
