Armenia stops construction of minor HPP at Trchkan Waterfall
The "Robshin" Construction Company has stated termination of building a minor hydroelectric power plant (HPP) on the Chichkhan River in the Lori Region near the Trchkan Waterfall and is moving all its machinery away from the site.
"The Limited Liability Company (LLC) 'Robshin' has done it to avoid any political speculations on the topic. The Company also hoped that future discussions will find solutions acceptable for all the parties," says the statement of the Company's press service released today.
Also today, the activists of the public youth initiatives, "Let's not keep silent!" have issued a statement that protests against the HPP construction will continue. In particular, on November 1, the initiative will hold another protest action against the decision to build a minor HPP near the Trchkan Waterfall; the action will take place at the Ministry for Nature Protection.
Let us add here that a tent camp was deployed near the Trchkan Waterfall, where about a dozen activists-ecologists are on duty around the clock in order to prevent any further construction of the HPP.
