Russia to apply for hosting Youth Olympic Games in Dagestan

Russia started the work for preparation of an official bid to host the Youth Olympic Games of 2018 on the Caspian Sea coast, in Dagestan.

"We will submit a bid, we will try to win, although, till present, no one managed to win at once," stated on October 28 Akhmed Bilalov, Vice-President of the Russian Olympic Committee, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the OJSC (Open Joint-Stock Company) "Resorts of the North Caucasus".

Akhmed Bilalov has emphasized that, at present, not only the world, but also Russia does not know Dagestan's best.

"No one knows that the city of Derbent is the most extensive Russian resort; no one knows that Dagestan is the birthplace of 16 Olympic champions and 40 World champions; that the Russian North Caucasus gave the world 50 Olympic champions and 200 World champions in different sports. Not every country can boast with at least one champion," the official website of the OJSC "Resorts of the North Caucasus" quotes Akhmed Bilalov as saying.

On November 1-2, the Delegation of the Russian Olympic Committee will travel to Lausanne, where the conference of the International Olympic Committee will be held. During the conference, the National Olympic Committees of the countries interested in applying for hosting the Youth Olympic Games will be presented the detailed analysis of the opportunities to be gained by cities, regions and countries, which will host the Olympics, the "ITAR-TASS" reports.
