Chechnya is full of "lakes" of oil wastes, "Rosprirodnadzor" asserts
Experts from the "Rosprirodnadzor" (Russian Federal Agency for Supervising the Nature) have drafted a list the most ecologically unsafe districts of Chechnya, which had been polluted with oil products for decades.
15 areas in the city of Grozny, the village of Primykanie, the village of Oktyabrskoe and other villages were listed as ecologically unsafe territories.
According to the experts, in the territories of these administrative points, mortiferous "lakes" of petrochemical waste maintained for decades, the IA "Grozny-Inform" reports.
Besides, the experts of the regional branch of the "Rosprirodnadzor" registered serious oil pollution of abandoned oil refineries.
"Once, these areas used to be called an industrial zone, now it's a dead zone. I will say more – it's a mortiferous zone, since due to lack of land temporary camps and settlements appear in unexamined, polluted and, possibly, contaminated territories," stated Lema Magomadov, the head of the "Rosprirodnadzor" in Chechnya.
He proposed to establish a special commission to solve the problem of pollution.
According to him, the commission should include not only environmental authorities, but also representatives of other departments and other experts, the RIA "Novosti" reports.
