Gaitukaev rejects his guilt of murdering Anna Politkovskaya
The investigators filed a charge against Lom-Ali Gaitukaev of the murder of Anna Politkovskaya, a journalist of the "Novaya Gazeta"; however, the defendant pleaded not guilty. This was reported by the Investigatory Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF).
The "Caucasian Knot" reported that the investigators planned to file a charge against Gaitukaev on October 7; however, the procedure was postponed due to the fact that the suspect waived a lawyer who was appointed by the court.
"Gaitukaev has been interrogated as a defendant. He pleads not guilty of committing the crimes incriminated to him," the "RIA Novosti" quotes the ICRF's statement.
Besides, the IC reports that the investigators filed a charge against Ibragim Makhmudov, Gaitukaev's nephew, whose pre-trial restrictions were not connected with custody.
"These actions of the IC were expected, since, earlier, the investigators said that Gaitukaev was the organizer of the murder, and the brothers Makhmudov - the participants in the crime," said Ilya Politkovsky, the son of the murdered journalist.
According to him, this is just a technical point. Ilya Politkovsky said that he still had no information on the murder customer. He does not know whether the investigators have progressed in this direction, the "Interfax" reports.
