Volgograd Region: policeman is suspected of killing detainee
A policeman of the city of Volzhsky of Volgograd Region is suspected of murdering a man who had been detained by the policeman for disorderly behaviour.
"On August 20, 2011, a man, being alcohol intoxicated, began to grossly violate public order. Policemen approached the place to stop administrative violation. When policemen were bringing a detainee to a police station, a driver policeman beat the detainee. The policemen arrived to the department of GOVD (City Interior Division), completed all necessary documents, and released the detainee," reports the Russian Investigatory Committee.
On the same day, the man was hospitalized by the city hospital of the city of Volzhsky, where two days later he died, without regaining consciousness. According to the forensic examiner, his death was caused by blunt trauma of his head, chest, rib fractures with lung injury, traumatic shock and cerebral oedema, the "ITAR-TASS" reported.
A policeman, suspected of involvement in death of the victim, was detained two months later by officers of the criminal police and department of inherent security of the Department of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of the city of Volzhsky, the edition "Gorod Geroev" (City of Heroes) reports.
At present, the circumstances of the incident are being investigated; a criminal case was instituted under Article of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "intentional infliction of grave bodily injury, resulting in death of a victim," the RIA "Novosti" reports.
