New residential district for refugees opened in Poti
Today, in the city of Poti in western Georgia, a new residential district of 32 buildings, built jointly with the European Union (EU) for internally displaced persons (IDPs), has been opened.
1168 IDPs from Abkhazia and South Ossetia will be settled in the new residential district. The total project cost amounts to 28.6 million laris (or 17.3 million US dollars); the residential district is divided into areas of 76,000 square meters. The new residential district is provided with gas pipeline and water supply; there is a playground for children.
Mikhail Saakashvili, President of Georgia, declared that, in the near future, the similar residential districts will be opened in the cities of Batumi and Tskhaltubo, and will be built in other cities.
The President thanked the EU for the project and emphasized that the project was realized namely in Poti, since the city has greater prospect for employment of citizens, the "GHN" reports.
