Armenian Ombudsman and Defence Minister to set up a group for preventing army crime
As agreed on October 10 by Seiran Oganyan, Minister of Defence, and Karen Andreasyan, Ombudsman of Armenia, with the aim to reduce the criminality level in the Armed Forces of Armenia, a working group will be set up.
Gevork Kostanyan, Military Prosecutor of Armenia, also took part in discussing the fight against crime and protection of human rights in the armed forces.
As a result of the meeting, an agreement was reached to set up - base on a joint order - a working a working group to promote discipline, reduce crime, prevent incidents and toughen responsibility in the armed forces, the "News-Armenia" Agency reports.
In particular, they stressed the need to revise the provisions set forth in the Disciplinary Statute governing penalties for respective offences, the Internal Service Statute, and other legal acts.
In his turn, the Armenian Ombudsman expressed his willingness to actively support the working group with experts, the "News.am" reports.
