Facebook users are preparing an action of protest timed to Sarkozy’s visit
A pressure group of Facebook social network is planning to organize an action of protest “We’ll make October, 7, the Day of Common Protest” near the building of the city Philharmonic Society in the center of Tbilisi parallel to a public speech of President of France Nicolas Sarkozy.
Nicolas Sarkozy will visit the regions of Southern Caucasus on October, 6, and 7.
He will go to Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia. Head of the French state is expected to speak in Svobody (Freedom) square of Tbilisi on October, 7, at 17:30 local time, “InterpressNews” reports.
The web-page of the pressure group informs that the action appointed at 16:00 must show Europe that not all the people in Georgia support the ruling party “United National Movement”. “As representatives of civil society we can and must organize ourselves and publicly demonstrate our protest”, a statement of the pressure group runs.
As of evening of October, 3, 41 Facebook users confirmed their intention to take part in the action of protest, 27 said that they would possibly come and 58 expressed a negative attitude towards the idea.
In connection with the appeal of the pressure group an oppositional party “Way of Georgia” issued a statement running that the party intended to join the action of protest. “Way of Georgia” supports the initiative and is ready to enter the campaign to clearly show the variety of political spectrum of Georgia to the President of France”, “Novosti Georgia” quotes the party’s statement.
