Georgian Labourites hold protest in front of Tbilisi Mayoralty
The leaders and supporters of the Georgian Labour Party have held a protest action in front of Tbilisi Mayoralty demanding to cancel the new garbage collection tariff, which is calculated based on the amount of consumed electricity.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 24 the Tbilisi City Council (Sakrebulo) decided, on the initiative of the Mayoralty, to calculate the fee for garbage removal in a new way, depending on the amount of the electricity, consumed by the customers.
The leaders of the party brought a symbolic bin labelled "Gigi Ugulava's garbage" (Gigi Ugulava is the Tbilisi Mayor, - note of the "Caucasian Knot") with them to the action: they put their electricity and garbage removal bills into the bin and put them on fire.
According to Paata Djibladze, one of the leaders of the Labour Party, the action is another warning.
"The protests will continue until the new tariff is cancelled; they will grow and become more widespread, with the result of the Mayor's dismissal, together with the majority of Sakrebulo deputies," the "Georgia-Online" quotes Mr Djibladze as saying.
At the same time, members of the Association of Young Financiers and Businessmen of Georgia also said that the new payment system for garbage removal in Tbilisi, where the payment depends on the amount of consumed electricity, is illegal, the "Business Georgia" reports.
Earlier, a similar protest against the new tariff was held by the Party of Christian Democrats.
