15 thousand residents of Batumi left without electricity because of pelting rains
As a result of pelting rains which lasted day and night on September, 25, the traffic in the major highways of Batumi (Adzharia, Georgia) was paralyzed for several hours. Water level in the main streets of the town reached 1 - 1,5 meters.
By evening of September, 25, road situation became worse again. As a result of a heavy rain traffic was stopped in Lermontov street and Chavchavadze avenue. The situation was especially grave in Bagrationi street, pavements are currently being repaired there.
Ground floors and basements of private houses and buildings were flooded in the town. There has not been such a strong flood in Batumi for already 20 years.
Besides, several power substations were damaged by the flood which resulted in stopping power supply of about 15 thousand residents of the capital of Adzharia the population of which is 120 thousand people, ITAR-TASS reports.
Employees of local municipality and "Energo-pro-Georgia" company took part in liquidation of the problems caused by the natural calamity, "Georgia Online" reports.
