Ingushetia resumes investigation into Maksharip Aushev's murder

A group of investigators from the Chief Department for the North-Caucasian and Southern Federal Districts (NCFD and SFD) of the Investigatory Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF), engaged in investigating the murder of human rights defender Maksharip Aushev, has visited Ingushetia. On September 23, they conducted investigatory actions in the city of Nazran, where Mr Aushev had lived and worked.

The group plans to finalize all the required actions by October 2, 2011.

Maksharip Aushev perished on October 25, 2009, when on the Federal Highway "Kavkaz" his car was shelled by unidentified persons from a passing-by car. Last October, the investigation was suspended "due to impossibility to establish the persons subject to be attracted as defendants." Maksharip's relatives did not agree with that decision.

In September 2010, his 80-year-old father Magomed-Hadji Aushev said that the Maksharip Aushev's case was given to a new group of investigators, working under the supervision of Russian President.
