Doctor in Stavropol Territory to stand trial for death of patient

In the city of Pyatigorsk (Stavropol Territory), the investigation is over into the criminal case against the head of the therapy ward of the central city hospital, whose misdiagnosis resulted in death of a patient.

"The female-medic is accused of committing a crime under Article 109, part 2, of the Russian Criminal Code ('Causing death by negligence, as a result of improper performance of one's professional duties')," said Grant Safarov, Acting Deputy Head of the Pyatigorsk Inter-District Investigatory Division.

It was established that in December 2009, a 28-year-old man was brought to the reception ward of the Medical Institution of Public Health "Central Pyatigorsk Hospital". "According to the source, the doctor put a wrong diagnosis (pneumonia) and prescribed treatment without conducting a medical examination.

After eleven days, the patient died, as the examination established, from A (H1N1) flu virus. The relatives addressed law enforcement bodies, the "Interfax" reports.
