Two policemen from Chechnya arrested in North Ossetia

In the town of Mozdok, an investigation against two policemen from the police regiment of the private security department of the Chechen Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) is under process. The police officers are suspected of arms trafficking in the territory of North Ossetia. This was reported by the Investigatory Department of the Investigatory Committee (IC) of North Ossetia.

According to the investigators, on April 20 near the checkpoint "Oktyabrsky" of the town of Mozdok one of the suspects sold to a planted police officer a Makarov pistol and eight rounds for 70 thousand roubles. On August 19 and September 16 the suspects twice sold to the same-planted police officer two automatic Stechkin pistols and 36 rounds for 10,800 US dollars.

"A criminal case was instituted against 25-year and 39-year-old police officers from the police regiment of the private security department of the Chechen MIA, they are suspected of committing crimes under Article 222 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (trafficking of arms and ammunition, committed by group of persons by prior agreement)," reported the statement of the IC. Sanction of the Article provides for up to six years of imprisonment, the "Interfax" reports.

At the request of the investigatory bodies, the court had arrested the suspects. The MIA also reports that, at present, involvement of the detainees in the similar crimes is being checked, the RIA "Novosti" reports.

The opinions of the suspects or their representatives are still unavailable.
