Armenia opens new passenger terminal at Zvartnots Airport
Within the large-scale events dated to celebrations of the 20th anniversary of independence of Armenia, on September 16, an official ceremony of commissioning the new terminal of the Zvartnots Airport took place.
The Zvartnots Airport is currently the only Class B airport in Southern Caucasus. Every year it will be able to serve 3.5 million passengers; today, the figure is 1.6 million. The novelties include a new flight information system, a baggage claim area, and a customs zone.
The runway was completely renovated; the conditions of international safety are guaranteed. The total investments in construction of the terminal made 160 million US dollars. Those made into the airport infrastructure, buildings and other facilities amounted to 320 million US dollars, the "Tert.am" reports.
The terminal should remain operational without any problems in case of an earthquake. The building has a 9-point seismic resistance. Ensuring uninterrupted communication with the outside world in case of emergency was one of the aims of renovation, the "PanARMENIAN" reports.
