Residents of Akhvakh District of Dagestan rally to demand not to change the status of local lands
The village of Karata, Akhvakh District of Dagestan, has hosted a rally, where residents of this village demanded not to transfer the agricultural lands reserved for the local cooperative, into the municipality ownership.
According to villagers, the decision of the district head is destabilizing the situation, because land in the mountains is the strongest deficits; therefore, the transfer of lands from one status into another should be done with great care.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Karata villagers wanted to hold a rally on July 29, due to the fact that the head of the district Ismail Magomedsharipov had failed to follow recommendations of higher authorities to cancel his earlier decision on transfer of agricultural land allocated to the local cooperative under management of the municipality. However, in late July the authorities managed to persuade residents Akhvakh District of Dagestan not to protest.
Six weeks later, the Karata villagers concluded that their demands were not met and held their protest action. The rally was attended by over 900 persons; speakers said that Magomedsharipov ignored the opinion of the leaders of Dagestan.
After the rally, a resolution was passed, offering the administration head to cancel his decision before September 21. Otherwise, the villagers will hold a new rally.
Besides, it was decided to seek help from the head of Dagestan: a letter asking to influence Magomedsharipov has been already sent to Magomedsalam Magomedov.
