Journalist Idrak Abbasov's relatives beaten in Baku
The family of Idrak Abbasov, Azerbaijani journalist and human rights activist, who resides in Baku, was attacked.
According to the journalist, this morning unidentified men in masks broke into his house, started beating parents, brothers and children with truncheons, and destroyed part of the fence with an excavator. His mother and brother were brought to the resuscitation ward of the hospital with traumatic brain injuries.
"My father suffered a stroke after the attack and fell into a coma," the "Interfax" quotes Idrak Abbasov as saying.
He stated that he intended to appeal to President Ilham Aliev asking to minister the soonest investigation into the incident.
According to the journalist, the attack was committed by the employees of the oil company "Binagadi Oil", which stated that the house was built illegally on the site belonged to it, the "Radio Svoboda" (Radio Freedom) reports.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) claimed having no information about the attack on the Abbasov's house. "Persons suffered from the illegal actions should contact the local police units in the community," the press service of the republic's MIA states.
Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" reported that on October 9, 2005, Idrak Abbasov himself was attacked. With numerous grave injuries he was hospitalized in the hospital named after Musa Nagiev. However, according to the journalist, doctors refused to give him a medical certificate about received injuries for its presentation to the court.
