The underage girl in Dagestan who reported gang rape rejected the psychologists’ aid

The fourteen-years-old resident of Khasavyurt who formerly reported that she had undergone gang rape altered her evidence and rejected the psychologists’ aid. The “Caucasian Knot” correspondent received this information from representatives of one of the local human rights organizations who referred to the girl’s mother and wished to remain anonymous.

Earlier, the “Caucasian Knot” reported that the crime was committed in September, 2010, in Khasavyurt. According to the investigation’s version, the girl was kidnapped on her way home from school. The abductors held the girl back for three days and tortured her.

On August, 16, the news appeared that the girl suddenly decided to alter her evidence telling the investigators that everything happened by her consent.

According to the girl’s mother, it was decided to reject the psychologists’ aid. Her mother also said that the girl was currently staying in Khasavyurt and was not going to leave.

According to the Investigative Department of Committee of Inquiry of the Russian Federation in Dagestan, four persons accused of rape are under examination at the moment. The lawyers say that even in case if they are exculpated they will not be able to escape criminal prosecution.

“According to clause 134 of the Criminal code of Russia, if a person of the full legal age has sexual relationship with anyone under 16 the person is considered guilty and may undergo punishment in form of custody up to three years’ term. Under such circumstances it makes no difference who initiated the relationship”, lawyer Magomed Shahrudinil said to the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.
