Islamists mark "Goodes Day" with protests in Baku

On Friday, August 26, activists of the Islamic Party of Azerbaijan (IPA) and a group of its believers-supporters staged a protest action outside the mosque "Bibi-Eibat" in the south-eastern outskirt of Baku on the occasion of the "Goodes Day" (Jerusalem), which is marked this year on August 26.

The action, which was attended by about 100 persons, was held in solidarity with the Palestinian people. The protesters condemned the Israeli actions in Palestine.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Elchin Manafov, Acting Chairman of the IPA, that the protesters chanted "Death to Israel!", "Death to America!", "Freedom for Palestine!", "Freedom to Karabakh" and "Allah Akbar!"

"We stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people and support their just demand to establish their independent state," said Manafov. "The Azerbaijani people are well aware of what aggression is; since we also faced it."

The rally lasted for about 15 minutes and ended with announcement of the resolution, prepared by the IPA. The document condemns the policy of "Zionism" and demands "to restore justice and create an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital."

The rally passed without incident. Already after the action policemen from the post-and-patrol service of the Sabail District appeared at the venue; however, by that time nobody was there.
