Mission of international observers is pleased with organization of presidential election in Abkhazia
Observers from IS-EMO and “Research Foundation for problems of democracy in the countries of CIS” consider that voting on the day of election of President of Abkhazia was organized at a high level and the process was going on without technical failures.
There are three presidential candidates: Vice-president Alexander Anquab, leader of the opposition Raul Khajimba and Prime Minister Sergey Shamba.
According to observer Evgeny Tsarkov, Deputy of the Supreme Rada of Ukraine, there were no technical failures at the moment of opening the polling stations. “We were pleased and at the same time surprised at the people’s desire to vote and queues at the polling stations testified to that. A lot of young people were taking part in voting”, Tsarkov said.
Observer from Poland Maksimush Janusz emphasized a high level of organization of the election. “At every polling station information of the presidential and vice-presidential candidates is available and all of them are presented equally, without any preferences”, the observer said.
“We visited many polling stations and felt no tension anywhere. The observers from the candidates are also calm and the atmosphere is favourable enough”, Olivier Dekrok from France pointed out speaking in the Informational Center of Central Election Committee of Abkhazia.
However, Chairman of the Georgian Parliament David Bakradze called today’s election illegitimate. He expressed his certainty that “the respective international bodies and states of the World will declare that today’s events cannot be estimated as election as they used to do it before”.
