Dagestan: policemen's rally postponed, because of participants' absence

The rally of policemen, who had failed to pass attestation and stand against corruption in the law enforcement system of Dagestan, scheduled for today in Makhachkala, has been postponed to September 30.

The event was postponed because people failed to come. Magomed Shamilov, one of the organizers of the protest rally and the leader of the independent trade union of law enforcers, has criticized the passivity of citizens and their unwillingness to "do at least anything in the fight against corruption in Dagestan."

"How can we hold a rally, when the participants are less in number than media professionals!? How long shall we tolerate it, how long shall we be slaves!?" Mr Shamilov was outraged.

In Dagestan, 193 policemen out of more than 16,000 failed to pass the extraordinary attestation and are subject to dismissal from the MIA; seven others were not recommended for further service in the police. The MIA has advised the disgruntled policemen, who failed to pass attestation, to go to court.
