Dagestani court sends case of policemen, guilty of beating teenager, to reconsideration

Today, the Supreme Court of Dagestan has decided to review the case of the employees of the Shamil ROVD (District Interior Division) accused of beatings a 14-year-old boy in June 2009. The case will be returned to the first instance court, said Bakanai Magomedova, the victims' advocate.

Let us remind you that at night on July 19, 2010, in the ROVD located in the village of Khebda, Shamil District of Dagestan, several militiamen beat up a teenager, forcing him to confess of stealing a drill. As a result, according to relatives, the boy became deaf in one ear. The investigation of the crime dragged on for 10 months. Three militiamen – Magomed Magomedov, Gamzat Nurudinov and Shamil Magomedov – faced trial and refused to plead guilty. On May 20 the court passed a verdict, according to which all the three were found guilty of abuse of powers.

Later, through cassation complaints the verdict to the militiamen was cancelled several times.

However, the today's court session has ruled to reconsider the case.
"The case will be sent for reconsideration to the first instance court, since the Shamil District Court, which had initially considered the case, made significant legal and procedural errors," the lawyer Bakanai Magomedova told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
