Appeal Court of Armenia releases three oppositionists

On August 19, the session of the Appeal Court of Armenia decided to release from custody opposition activists Sargis Gevorkyan, Vaagn Gevorkyanov and Artak Karapetyan, who had been arrested by the court of first instance of the communities Centre-Nork Marash.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told at the press service of the Armenian National Congress (ANC) that the above three activists were released because the court found their arrest unjustified. The petition to release the fourth opposition leader Tigran Arakelyan was rejected.

Another activist of the oppositional ANC Artak Karapetyan was fined by the Court of Appeal by the amount of million drams, or about 900 US dollars.
As previously reported by the "Caucasian Knot", in the evening on August 9 seven young activists of the oppositional ANC were detained in central Yerevan. The reason for the detention was a hassle with law enforcers. Advocates Obsepyan and Voskanyan, who defended the oppositionists' interests, said that at the police station law enforcers prevented advocates' work.
