Six gunmen killed in a special operation in Dagestan

An active stage of the special operation which started on August, 15, in Khasavyurt and Kizilyurt districts of Dagestan and recommenced this morning has come to an end, a source in the republican Ministry of Interior Affairs reported.

Special actions began in this area after detention of a supposed participant of one of the gunmen’s groups developing their activities there on August, 14. On August, 15, a summer gunmen’s base was found and annihilated in Khasavyurt district of Dagestan. The camp consisted of eight tents meant for about 20 people. A hideout with arms and ammunition was found in the territory of the base.

Late in the evening of August, 16, the servicemen and policemen were combing the forest near the settlement of Endiray. One of the search groups got under fire from self-firers. Three members of power ministries got wounding of different extent of gravity. On August, 17, a serviceman of Inner troops of the Ministry of Interior Affairs of Russia perished and another one got wounded in a new confrontation with the gunmen.

Today during further search in several kilometers distance from the found camp between the settlements of Novoye Gadari and Toturbikala the servicemen traced a group of gunmen. “Offered to surrender and lay down arms the gunmen put up armed resistance and attempted to escape. During pursuit and armed confrontation six gangsters were neutralized”, a report of NAC runs. A counter-terrorist operation regime in the area of the special operation is still in force, RIA “Novosti” reports.
