Chechnya sees food price growth
Recently, certain foodstuffs have become more expensive in Chechnya. It happens despite the fact that prior to start of the Muslim sacred month of Ramadan republic's leaders had stated inadmissibility of food price increase and expressed their readiness to start regulating food prices.
Thus, a kilo of meat was before the Ramadan at 180-190 roubles, now it is 200.
The price of a kilo of minced meat has gone up from 220 to 240 roubles. The only market of cucurbits has seen some price drop. Water melons and melons are now much cheaper than 3-4 weeks ago.
"Our main national meal is zhizhig-galnash (dumplings with meat). After the fasting, many believers prefer this dish. Meat has ever been expensive here; now it is up to 200 roubles per kilo. Authorities had promised that prices would not grow, but we see now that the growth is obvious," said Akhyad M., a resident of Grozny.
